Education on nutrition is an essential part of healthy lifestyle teaching. Public nutrition utilizes public educational programs aimed at improving the nutritional status of people around the world thus improving public health in general (NRS 429V Lecture 3, 2011).

Public programs provide education on many different aspects of nutrition. The following three are important points that should be included in the education: Importance of increasing consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, the effects of carbohydrates and sugar on the body and caloric intake versus expenditure.

There are many community resources available to assist the public with nutrition education. It is difficult to reach everyone because of the different socio-economic levels. The following two are of the many available resources in different contexts. First, ChooseMyPlate.gov is a website created in 2011 from a joint effort between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Michelle Obama. Second is the women, Infants and Children program (WIC) is a federally funded program that assists generally lower income woman with children (Arizona WIC Application Information, 2012).
