Course Project Milestone 1 Guidelines

Purpose
To apply lessons in quality improvement in nursing to a real world nursing issue. This Course Project will use the Six Sigma DMAIC process.
Points
The entire project is worth 600 points. Milestone 1 is worth 100 points of this total.
Below are a few tips, broken down by section, to help guide you through this first assignment. Also included is a recording that discusses Milestone 1 in more detail. Please note that if you are viewing this Announcement from your email, you will not see the recording. You will need to locate this Announcement within the course and view it from there.
Nursing Care Issue and Outcome
In this section, you will provide your selected nursing care issue and desired outcome from the Week 1 Discussion. Remember, you should select a nursing care issue(CAUTI, falls, etc), not a workforce issue, such as staffing. Each of these items should be a simple statement. But remember, do not select the topic of CLABSI.
If your nursing care issue is Falls, you just need to state that your issue is Falls. For your desired outcome, simply state the intention of your project. What do you want to see happen by focusing on this issue? A desired outcome should contain a measurable component to determine if interventions were successful. How would you determine that quality has been improved?
Remember, keep this section simple!
Details of the Issue
Like the title says, in this section, you will be providing details of your selected nursing care issue. What makes your topic an issue of concern? Why is it important that this issue be addressed? What impact does it have on patients and/or staff? Please be sure to provide much depth and detail.
Reason Issue Selected
In this section, you will provide detail as to why you chose this nursing care issue. What makes this topic important to you or to your facility? Be sure to provide excellent depth and detail to earn the most points!
Requirements and Guidelines
· Quality improvement is an important issue in professional nursing today. In Milestone 1, the student will define a nursing care issue (not a workforce issue such as staffing) from a current or former workplace or clinical setting that could be impacted by improved quality. The student will then provide details about this issue, as well as explain the reason this issue was selected. Milestone 1 is due at the end of Week 1.
